SWEET APOCALYPSE | As ocean wildlife nears extinction, a timid biologist dreams of becoming a father. In his quest he will make two extraordinary discoveries: love and a fish.

INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE

The film

Things are bad: there is almost no more fish on the planet. As scientists worldwide frantically look for a solution, a biologist – paradoxically haunted by his desire to become a father – tries to encourage fish to mate. One day, he discovers a fish with a strange shape, and meets a young woman. One discovery leads to another, allowing him to identify precisely what he is missing in his life.

In his apocalyptic romcom, Olivier Babinet makes the genre feel fresh again by giving it a poetic fairy tale quality. Subtly, humorously, the story presents two characters who are lost but deeply touching – two characters superbly portrayed by the delightful Gustave Kervern and India Hair. Although the people in the film are very quirky, the film itself could not be more relevant to today’s ecological and human questions. And all that with a hefty dose of dry wit!

The director

Olivier Babinet started off in the industry with LE BIDULE, a TV series shown on Canal+ in 1999. He made his first short film in 2008: C'EST PLUTÔT GENRE JOHNNY WALKER, which left a mark in many festivals. Two years later, Babinet’s ROBERT MITCHUM EST MORT, his first feature codirected with photographer Fred Kihn, was shown in Cannes at the ACID (Association pour le cinéma indépendant et sa diffusion). In 2016, SWAGGER is shown there as well. It’s a documentary about his work with high schoolers. POISSONSEXE is his second feature of fiction.
